I'm not thinking about buying one yah right. I'm just curious what the process was like, how it went you know shimmy sha banga bang and all that mess. Edit: okay lots of cool response's. What are the women's views that get involved in this type of situation. Is it just an escape for them. Do they consider it a positive thing or just a necessary evil? There was a speaker at my school last week who spoke about Sex Trafficking We were told that mail order brides were victims of the Sex Trade, typically coming from third world countries and the majority of clients being in the US.
It's interesting to see that it can actually benefit some people, which it seems to have done for your father's wife.
Interesting stuff. But I married a russian woman who was already in the country 11 years ago. We're still married and are happy together.
As the husband of a russian wife, I've met numerous others husbands of my wife's friends who have done the straight mail-order thing. I don't think I've seen a successful mail-order marriage with a husband under the age of Do you ever have to deal with people treating you a certain way because they assume she's a mail-order bride?
I have a Russian friend who came here for school and ended up falling in love with a guy here and marrying him. When they applied for their marriage and her green card pretty much everybody at the courthouse made some sort of snide comment, and they still get them from time to time from people who don't know them. I'm married to a Ukrainian immigrant. Didn't buy her, either.
I found a russian woman on the internet, and married her. ama
We're getting to go through all the immigration crap now. If you don't mind me asking, how did the process go for you? Slightly off topic, but there was an AMA by a mail order bride some months back, if anyone's interested. I remembered this too, upvote for finding the URL so I didn't have to!
I'm actually the child of one of these relationships. My father is originally from New Zealand, and my mother, 3 brothers and I are from Thailand. We came over to live with him when I was around 4 years old 15 years ago and my brothers were 6,9 and I don't remember my real father very well, but he died when I about a year after I was born.
Anyway, my mother and new father are around the same age, and as far as I can remember, they've really loved each other. It wasn't like that at first I don't think, but they soon made a connection and we are still a happy family to this day! I honestly didnt expect happy stories in this post.
It's heartening to remember that people can find happiness in all kinds of unexpected places. Thanks for sharing.
I too worked with someone who had met his wife through a magazine. I can't remember where he saw the advertisement from, but went overseas to "select" his wife and came back with a girl from Romania. They've been together for nearly a decade now and have a wonderful family and seem to truly love each other. Every year their families come together - they fly to Romania or he pays for her mother and father to come to the states.
Im not kidding. Conclusion from this thread is if ordering a bride, she better be asian! I'm glad they were both happy about it, but the idea of buying one of my brothers or sisters is innately disturbing. My friend's cousin married a woman from Cambodia so she wouldn't be sold into slavery. Which totally sounds like a con when I say it like that She's incredibly nice.
I'm 26 and married a mail order bride from cambodia and i could not be happier - ama
Who has ever purchased a mail order bride? How did that go for you? Sort by: best. Continue this thread.
Ama request: somebody who "ordered" and then married a russian mail order bride or a russian mail order bride who now lives in the us.
Just curious, how old is your dad and how old is his wife? Yeah your dad kind of sounds like a dick. Still a better love story than twilight. But potentialmastermind, you don't have a father I submit that this is perfectly on topic That link is purple. God I am lone.
You are the Thai child of a Maori stepfather I guess money really can buy happiness. More posts from the AskReddit community. Created Jan 25, Top posts december 6th Top posts of december, Top posts Back to Top.
